Newly-appointed Mayor Victor Gomez on Monday announced a set of ambitious goals for the coming year.

Gomez’s list of goals included the following:

– He encouraged council members to re-examine Roberts Rules of Order – for public meetings – and he would like to set up an arrangement to cut off council members’ microphones automatically when he or she no longer is speaking. He noted how there is often background laughter and chatter picked up by the local community access channel’s broadcasts.

– Gomez wants staff to continue working on a social host ordinance he has broached and he believes that adults hosting “parties where alcohol and kids mix is still a significant problem.”

– He urged members to communicate with the community and hold public workshops.

– He wants to examine revamping the city Web site to make it more “user-friendly.”

– Gomez wants to continue making progress in an effort to use recycled water for crops.

– He broached an idea to investigate the possibility of hosting an air show at the Hollister Municipal Airport.

– He wants to follow through with development of a dog park.

– He wants to examine the desirability for term limits.

– Gomez wants to form a strong partnership with the county to combine services where possible to save taxpayers’ money.

– He wants to streamline development permitting and reduce impact fees up-front to spur economic development.

– Gomez said officials should look at ways to make government more “frugal.”

– And he wants to try to gain a consensus for an at-large mayor and he plans to let the voters decide if they want it.
