Hollister council members Monday put off a decision on the 2015 motorcycle rally as the downtown association and city continue negotiations, but one official declared there will be an event next year.
Council members will likely consider a contract with the Hollister Downtown Association on management of the 2015 event at a Jan. 20 meeting, City Manager Bill Avera said at Monday’s council meeting.
“We’re not miles apart. We’re very close,” Avera said of talks on basic terms. “We will be having a rally next year.”
Avera said organizers are talking about hosting it as a three-day event. The recently departed promoter of the past two events wanted to go with two days.
“We’re working towards the 2015 event,” Avera said.
Council members next month would weigh an official decision on a third consecutive rally, the city’s signature event.
The promoter of the Hollister Rally for the past two years has departed from the role, and the Hollister Downtown Association is searching for a replacement to potentially put on a 2015 event over Independence Day weekend. Mark Cresswell and his North Carolina-based Worldwide Dynamics company are no longer running the motorcycle event.
Hollister city leaders sanctioned downtown motorcycle rallies in 2013 and 2014 after four years without it.
