HOLLISTER

The Hollister Police Officers’ Association has endorsed Victor Gomez for the District 5 city council seat over David Huboi and Roy Iler.

The local police union announced the endorsement today in a statement.

“The new council members should have a business foundation,” read the statement signed by HPOA President Ray Wood, a Hollister police sergeant. “Decisions should be made with a clear understanding of the ramification of those decisions. Running a city is very similar to running a business.”

Hollister police offered their support for the franchise owner of the local Papa Murphy’s over Huboi, who owns an architecture business, and Iler, who’s a sheriff’s lieutenant. The three face off on the Nov. 4 ballot, while two other races for Hollister City Council seats are unopposed.

The statement contends that Gomez would bring new economic development and encourage reasonable growth while expanding crime prevention to “make our neighborhoods safe.”
