Hollister School District Trustee Michal Query has announced her resignation from the board, effective May 22, according to a statement from the Hollister School District.
Query has submitted a letter of resignation to the San Benito County Office of Education. In it, she noted that she plans to move out of the state in June.
Query, a former teacher in the district, was elected to the five-person board of trustees in November 2010 and immediately served as board president for the next year.
Superintendent Gary McIntire said the following in a statement about her coming departure:
“As a Board member and President of the Board, Ms. Query’s service to the Board has been marked by her steady voice of reason and consistency. Ms. Query always weighs her decisions based upon the best interests of the Hollister School District and its students.
During her tenure on the Board, Ms. Query has seen the District through a period of extraordinary financial turmoil, largely caused by the loss of funding from the state. Despite the financial challenges, Ms. Query always maintained a focus on the interests of the District’s students. Her voice on the Board will be missed. We wish her continued success in the future.”
It is unclear how the district plans to approach filling the position. McIntire could not be reached immediately.
Query is the second recent Hollister district trustee to announce a resignation in the past six months, following former Trustee Joe Navarro’s departure in September. It also follows San Benito High School Trustee Tim Shellito’s resignation announcement last week.
