A 79-year-old Hollister resident was killed last week after the car she was riding in failed to yield to a vehicle with the right of way, according to a press release from California Highway Patrol. The collision involved three vehicles in northern Hollister.
The victim’s name was not immediately available. A 2002 Chrysler car driven by Eleazar Arciniega and carrying the woman who died was stopped at the posted stop sign at about 8:55 p.m. March 23 on Fallon Road east of Fairview Road, according to the statement. For an unknown reason failed to yield the right of way to oncoming vehicle traveling about 55 miles per hour on Fairview Road and pulled directly into its path, according to the press release.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident at this time, explained Chris Miceli, the public information officer with the Hollister-Gilroy area CHP, who spoke with the Free Lance on Wednesday morning.
The front of the second vehicle, a 2002 GMC truck driven by 18-year-old Pablo Melendez of Hollister, struck the right side of the car driven by Arciniega, the statement explained. The car driven by Arciniega then collided with a 1991 Honda car, driven by 29-year-old Megan Serpa Skiver, of Hollister, that was stopped at the posted stop sign on Fallon Road, according to the press release.
The car driven by Arciniega continued in a southwest direction and struck a guardrail before coming to rest, according to the statement from CHP.
