HOLLISTER
Effective today, Bill Gere is no longer manager at the Hollister Municipal Airport, according to a press release from the city.
Gere’s departure comes after he had been placed on administrative, paid leave since Jan. 17. His leave of absence occurred after the former manager in December changed a planning document – as recommended by the airport advisory commission – before it went before Hollister City Council members. Gere’s version of the airport layout plan left out a proposal for a new CalFire air-attack base.
It’s unclear whether Gere was fired by city officials or left voluntarily.
The city announced a search for a new airport manager in the press release. In the interim, Code Enforcement Officer Mike Chambless will act as airport manager with some help from a contracted management firm, CH2M.
Gere had been Hollister airport manager for about three years.
