It is so sad to see a wannabe elected official, Ignacio Velazquez, go to the City Council and try to politicize an honest printing error made by the Pinnacle newspaper. The error was the name of the writer left off of a letter whose content included Ignacio’s name. However, other letters appearing in the same paper that day also had the letter writer’s names left out. After speaking with Tracie Cone of the Pinnacle newspaper, she explained it was due to a processing error, similar to downloading computer files and all the info does not come out. It was an honest mistake but Ignacio had to take it to a new level during public input at the Hollister City Council meeting.
Ignacio, along with the chairman of the San Benito County Republican central committee, Marvin Jones, attacked Councilman Conroy, the City Council and the Pinnacle newspaper. Ignacio must not have read the column or just read what he wanted to get out of it. By asking the Council to censor Conroy, Ignacio has lowered the bar on dirty politics hoping to make political points.
Unfortunately, the hate talk flowed from the Council chambers to the front yard of Councilman Conroy’s home. Political signs of the opposite political party that Councilman Conroy is a member, were driven into his lawn and one can conclude as to whom and why.
As a registered Republican for 40 years, I always hoped the Party would stay above such sleaze, but I see from Ignacio and Jones’ performance at the City Council meeting and what happened at Councilman Conroy’s home, they proved me wrong.
