MARINA

After falling to Pacific Collegiate last Friday in Coastal Athletic League action, the Anzar High girls basketball team rebounded Tuesday to defeat host Marina 33-16 behind 13 points from Melissa Weckerle.

Brittany Doty added six points for the Hawks, who improve to 2-1 in the CAL, 4-11 overall.

Delaney McKinney and Shelby Sorensen each had four points for Anzar, while Emily Anderson, Raleigh McKinney and Megan Carvalho added two points apiece to round out the Hawks’ scoring.

Anzar controlled the game from start to finish, controlling an 11-5 lead after the first quarter, then silencing the Mariners in the second stanza en route to a comfortable 21-5 cushion at halftime.

The Hawks managed to outscore Marina in the second half as well by a 12-11 margin.

The win propels Anzar to Thursday’s game at Georgiana Bruce Kirby, which previously lost to Marina by a 57-48 margin.

Tip-off is 4:30 p.m.
