The San Benito girls’ basketball team, which received the No. 6 seed and a first-round bye to open the Central Coast Section Division I Championships, will square off against No. 11 Carlmont in Thursday night’s second round of play.

Carlmont (17-8) opened the Division I bracket on Tuesday night with a 40-19 victory over No. 14 Fremont (11-14) of Sunnyvale to advance to the CCS second round.

Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Hollister’s Mattson Gym.

The winner will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal round against No. 3 Gunn (17-5), which received a bye through the first two rounds of action. That game will be held at Hartnell College, located at 156 Homestead Avenue in Salinas.

On the boys’ side, the No. 10 Haybalers (15-10) will visit No. 7 Homestead (15-9) on Thursday night in the CCS second round after San Benito managed to escape with a 55-54 victory over No. 15 Fremont (10-15) in Tuesday’s opening round.

Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Homestead High School, located at 21370 Homestead Road in Cupertino.

The winner will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal round against No. 2 Serra (19-8), which received two byes to open the postseason. The quarterfinals will be held at Piedmont Hills High School, located at 1377 Piedmont Road in San Jose.
