Evan Olbring and Cooper Sepulveda each had 12 points apiece, Tyler Rickard added 10, and the San Benito Haybalers earned their second straight win when they defeated host Seaside 51-43 in non-conference play on Tuesday night.

Olbring, who started in place of Devin Wingo at center, pulled down eight rebounds to go along with his double-digit point total, while the Balers shot 7 of 11 from the free-throw line — a vast improvement over the team’s recent struggles from the charity stripe.

“That was nice,” San Benito head coach Tracy Carpenter said.

Meanwhile, Sepulveda’s stat line included five rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Kyle Vallejo, who had six points, delivered a dunk in the third quarter.

The difference in the game was San Benito’s strong second quarter of play, though, where the Balers outscored the Spartans 18-8 and garnered a 27-17 halftime lead.

“We had a good second quarter … a pretty good defensive effort,” Carpenter said. “We tightened up on defense, got some steals and some fastbreaks.”

San Benito is now 5-3 overall.

The Balers are off for the holiday break, but will return on Monday when they will play Carmel to open the Condor Christmas Classic, which is hosted by North Monterey County High in Castroville.

Tip-off is 8 p.m.
