Kelsey Robledo scored 17 points and pulled down four rebounds, Melissa Weckerle added 10 points, and the Anzar girls basketball team earned its first victory in Coastal Athletic League play on Tuesday when it defeated visiting Marina 36-21.

The Hawks are now 1-1 in the CAL, 3-8 overall. The win snaps a seven-game losing streak for Anzar.

Slow starts for both teams prevented large leads in the first half, as Anzar held a 2-0 lead after one quarter, 9-5 at halftime.

The Hawks managed to pull away in the third quarter, though, when they outscored the Mariners 16-6.

“We started pressing more,” Anzar head coach Mike Bonomi said. “They fouled us a lot and we got some free throws.

“And Kelsey (Robledo) hit a bunch of shots.”

The sophomore post player Robledo was 8 of 10 from the field for Anzar. The Hawks also received seven points from Sabrina Gonzalez.

Anzar had six steals in the game.

The Hawks have two games remaining on their schedule this week. On Thursday, Anzar will visit Harker at 6 p.m., and will host Georgiana Bruce Kirby on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
