Paul Hawkins and Paul Dean each scored 12 points Tuesday as St. Thomas More defeated the Anzar boys basketball team 47-29 in non-conference action in San Jose.

Anzar’s Andres Gomez and Mark Rania were able to offset the Knights’ two leading scorers when they deposited 13 and 11 points, respectively. But More, blessed with plenty of height, was never threatened.

Hawks head coach Ed Cecena said the Knights have a legitimate shot at the Central Coast Section Division V title this year.

“They’re a good team,” Cecena said. “They look good with their two big guys, and they play well.”

Cecena commented on the Hawkins brothers, Paul and Peter, each of whom stand approximately 6-foot-3.

Peter Hawkins had four points on Tuesday.

More controlled the game from the start when it led 17-7 after one quarter and 33-14 at halftime. Anzar outscored More in the second half 15-14.

The Hawks are now 2-8 overall.

Anzar will visit Soledad on Friday at 7 p.m.
