A showdown between two Hollister Little League clubs looms in the winner’s bracket of the District 9 9-10 All-Star Tournament. With Hollister American 9-10 A’s 4-0 defeat of Hartnell Wednesday, the plot will thicken should the Hollister National 9-10 A stars defeat North County tonight at Salinas-Atlantic Field. The winner of tonight’s game meets Hollister American A’s on Tuesday at Salinas-Atlantic at 5:30 p.m.
Hollister American A manager Mike Granger was happy with his club’s performance against a good Hartnell club.
“Hartnell is a well-coached team,” said Granger. “We played great defense.”
Nick Hernandez pitched the first three innings and yielded two of Hartnell’s three hits. Darrin Gilles pitched the fourth inning and earned the win. That’s because American 9-10’s came up with their first two runs of the night. Bryan Granger led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Eddie Vargas drove Granger in with a single. Gilles had an RBI double on the night, while Andre Lucas added an RBI single. Granger scored two of his team’s four runs and also contributed a single.
In the ongoing 11 year-old Tournament in Salinas, Kenny Sabbate pitched a gem for the Hollister American 11’s who came away with a 5-0 shutout against Soledad. Sabbate pitched all six innings.
“Kenny pitched a great game,” said American 11 manager Dave Brooks. “He saved our pitching for the next game.”
The next game is vs. the Hollister National 11’s this Saturday at Salinas-American Field at 11 a.m.
Nick Macadaeg threw out a runner at home from center field, while right fieder Manny Bueno threw out a runner at second.
The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the semifinals on Wednesday. The championship game is on July 11.
