– The Council approved a $4,500 a year contract for maintenance
of the city’s computer network services. The agreement was made
with Monterey Information Technologies. The contract does not
include any new equipment; it is only for maintenance.
The cost had already been included in the current budget, and
either party can terminate the deal with a 30 days notice. A
similar contract had been considered with 3-COM for $12,000 over
three years, but it required an up front payment of the entire
sum.

– The Council approved temporary street closures for San Benito High School dances and also the second annual Veterans Day Parade. The high school has routinely requested closure on Monterey Street for several dates throughout its nine-month school year.
The county’s Veterans Coalition requested closing of several streets for the parade on Nov. 11. Last year’s procession was the first in 50 years in Hollister.
– The Council chose a voting delegate and an alternate from the Council for the annual League of California Cities conference Sept. 7-10 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Councilman Robert Scattini was chosen as the voting delegate. Councilman Tony LoBue is the alternate.
– The Council approved a $58,000 payment to the firm designing a further addition to the Westside Boulevard Extension project. Once completed, Westside Boulevard will connect San Benito Street and Southside Road. It is being designed to direct drivers along an alternate route as a means to ease downtown traffic.
The total project will cost “several million” dollars, Quilter said, and will include permanent closure of Nash Road at San Benito High School.
“There’s a real problem with the split campus,” said Public Works Director Clint Quilter.
The projected completion is sometime in 2006, according to city engineers.
