It’s common knowledge that people should drink at least eight glasses of water a day. But nothing is worse than drinking a glass of water that tastes like chlorine, smells like old shoes and has unidentified objects floating near the top of the glass.

Keith Nance, owner of Hollister Quality Water, wants his customers to be assured the product he offers is water in its purist form.

“When the man from the state Food and Drug board came by, he took one look at our system and noted that we’d done our homework,” Nance said. “We know our purification system is one of the best.

“Some water stores only use a filter system. What this does is simply filter out the water. It doesn’t change the taste or purify it. Our system not only filters the water, but purifies it.”

According to Nance, the water at Hollister Quality Water goes through several different types of filters, two reverse osmosis membranes and an ozone unite.

“The ozone unit is to keep algae and germs from growing in the water,” he said. “It produces highly concentrated oxygen and is 300 times more powerful than chlorine. This helps give the water a cleaner taste.”

When customers come to fill their water bottles, Nance has them go through a rinse station first to sanitizes the bottles. There are eight filling stations inside the store and a 24-hour fill station outside.

Each day, Nance measures the purification levels of the water, and he enjoys showing customers the difference in purification between expensive bottled water and Hollister Quality Water.

In addition to selling water, the business carries a number of water-related products. These include crocks that come in three sizes, small, medium and large, and each is individualized with paintings that include horses, flowers and for the sports fans, team logos. Water bottles that can be used with the crocks range from the smaller half-gallon size to the large five-gallon containers. They also sell individual bottles.

Other accessories include sports bags to carry water bottles, long-term water bowls for dogs and cats, and shower heads complete with filters.

“The shower-head filters are real popular, especially for people without soft water,” Nance said. “They’ll come back and tell me how soft their hair feels after washing it under the shower filter.

“Besides the crocks, we carry water dispensers. We have hot and cold dispensers, with a safety valve for the hot water,” he said. “Another dispenser has room temperature water and cold. We also have the best ice around. We make our own ice here from our purified water.”

In addition to water, Hollister Quality Water sells a variety of bottled drinks.

“We sell Red Bull and Rockstar,” Nance said. “We also have slushies and smoothies. These come in three flavors; blue raspberry, black cherry and frozen cappuccino. People tell me our smoothies have such rich flavor. That’s because our water is so pure, you’re tasting the true flavor of the drink.”

Hollister Quality Water opened its doors last month and is currently holding a grand-opening sale through the end of August.

Hollister Quality Water is located at 1715-3 Airline Highway in the Heritage Plaza Shopping Center. Business hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
