Editor,
We all make mistakes in life and the best thing to do in that case is to admit it, correct your error, and move on.
It becomes clearer everyday that the incumbent District Attorney, John Sarsfield, is just not up to the job. He is a mistake. Since he won’t give up the position, it’s up to the voters to admit their mistake, take the job away from him, and move on.
Hardly a day goes by where the DA is not involved in some unseemly dispute or applying his strange priorities plea bargaining the gang-bangers. Instead of aggressively fighting our growing gang-related crime problems, Mr. Sarsfield is bent on wasting truckloads of the taxpayer’s funds attacking and fighting his political ‘enemies’ and hiring unqualified people. First he blew his budget and then he declared war on the Board of Supervisors for not writing him a blank check so he can continue his ill-advised actions.
Some things that voters must expect from their elected officials, especially on the local level and from a DA, are a fairly thick skin, a respect for the taxpayer’s money, a sense of proportion in using the power of his office, and fulfillment of his specific promises regarding the prosecution of crime. Mr. Sarsfield has failed on all of those accounts; he is not suited for the position.
