11U baseball team takes first place
MARTINEZ

The Hollister Junior ‘Balers 11U travel baseball team won their second consecutive travel tournament recently after compiling a 4-1 record at the annual Summer Sizzler in Martinez.

The Junior ‘Balers began the weekend by finishing 1-1 after the first day, though. On Saturday, they beat the Bay Area Bandits 5-4, but then fell to Petaluma Baseball 11-6.

On Sunday, the team found themselves in last place of Pool B. To win the championship, they were going to have to win three games in a row, which is just what they did.

The first game on Sunday was against the Salinas Knockouts; the Junior ‘Balers won by a score of 17-6. They then beat the Bay Area Bandits for a second time by a score of 7-4. Their final game was against the Bombers of San Rafael, which the Junior ‘Balers were able to prove victorious against by a score of 5-1.

The pitching was led by Andrew Sotelo (2-0, one save), Tyler Biersdorff (1-1, one save), Adam Gonzales (1-0) and Daniel Hopkins (one save). The batting averages reflect the fine hitting of the entire team: Andrew Sotelo (.600), Jose Rodriguez (.529), Yurixa Gonzalez (.462), Joe Coffelt (.385), Vincent Parker (.333), Tyler Biersdorff (.333), Macen Schwehr (.333), Adam Gonzales (.267), and David Werolin (.167).
