KING CITY

The Anzar High boys basketball team was shut out in the first quarter Wednesday and couldn’t recover as host King City defeated the Hawks 71-36 in Mission Trail Athletic League action.

Mark Rania had 13 points for Anzar, which falls to 1-2 in the MTAL, 1-10 overall.

The Hawks were coming off their first win of the season, a 42-39 victory over Greenfield, but the team couldn’t make it two in a row with King City’s high-powered offense.

The Mustangs had four scorers in double-digits, including Arnoldo Mora, whose 17 points led all scorers. Rory Johnsen, Irvin Diaz and Marc Flores all pocketed 12 points apiece.

The Hawks trailed 13-0 after the first quarter and 32-8 at halftime.

Anzar will host Carmel (2-1 MTAL, 5-10) on Friday in San Juan Bautista. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
