The 2005 Hollister Little League season has arrived
Hollister – When it comes to little league baseball, one would be hard pressed to find a community that does it better than Hollister.

The 2005 Hollister Little League season was kicked off in style at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Friday in front of a massive crowd that was treated to a big fireworks display at the ceremony’s conclusion.

Coach Michael Luna’s varsity Haybalers escorted each of the teams out onto the diamond for the ceremony before last year’s standouts were honored. Also honored on Friday night was the 1987 San Benito All-Stars. The team put together one of the most memorable seasons of any local little league team in recent memory on its way to becoming Section Five champs.

The All-Stars then went on to win the Nor-Cal champions in 1987 and then went on to do what no Hollister Little League team had ever done, play in the Western Regionals for a spot in the Little League World Series. They met their match against the Southern California team but still took home runner up in the regional playoffs.

Several members of that 1987 team were on hand Friday night to be recognized and to also throw out the first pitch, officially kicking off the 2005 season.

Given the fact that Hollister Little League has been getting better and better in recent years, there’s good reason to think that it might not be too long before another one of our local teams goes deep into the little league postseason.

The season begins in earnest today with a full slate of games set to take place at Veterans Memorial Park.
