Grab the kids and get to the “Disney on Ice” presentation of “Let’s Celebrate”. It is delightful, educational and full of clever choreography, glorious costumes, exhilarating music and all the special effects this side of Disneyland and Disney World combined. All your favorite Disney characters are included, bundled into one evening without going into overdrive.
Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen – from the movie “The Princess and The Frog” – make their “Disney on Ice” debut. Tetona Jackson is Princess Tiana – “Disney On Ice’s” first African-American princess. She is half Persian and half African-American and is a multi-talented trained skater.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse host the event, taking us on an action-packed tour of the imagination with vignettes from Disney classics. The audience traverses the globe on a holiday, joining just about every prince, princess and villain Disney invented. Joyously they participate in all the annual celebrations from the Chinese New Year to Halloween, Mardi Gras to Valentine’s Day and all those in between.
In the capable hands of director Patty Vincent and 30-year Disney veteran creative director and writer Jerry Bilik, the production is a gleeful, fast-moving experience for children and adults.
Cindy Stuart, choreographer who has worked with silver medallist Rosalyn Sumners, Nancy Kerrigan, Katarina Witt, two-time national pairs champions Jenni Meno and Todd Sand, and world champion Chen Lu, is a true artist who paints beautiful routines that are more than the usual ice show shtick. Her imaginative presentations keep the attention of 3-year-olds as well as the adults that come to enjoy a unique evening with their children.
Scenic designer Robert Little and lighting designer Alex Reardon create magic in the arena, covering the ice with imaginative scenes and lighting that emit glorious visions for the senses.
The costumes by Vanessa Leuck include everything from kimonos, grass skirts and evening gowns. More than 100 costumes appear in the extravaganza and each is true to the character in the design and detail.
Aided by a talented cast of excellent skaters, stunning lighting and reminiscent music, the entire production does exactly what it’s suppose to do: it gives off a glow of happiness and well being. Kids will leave with a great lesson in various cultures and adults will leave with a reminiscence of their childhood. After all, Snow White must be at least 60 years old and she still looks great.
