The South Valley Symphony’s March 7 evening concert at Gavilan Community College’s theater celebrates young people through music.
We invite families in our South Valley region, including Hollister, San Juan Bautista, Gilroy, San Martin and Morgan Hill, to come and discover the third in our series of four “A Musician’s Journey” concerts. This Saturday’s concert is called “Musicians Among Us, Rising Stars,” and it will be a fun way for our regional symphony to introduce the joy of music to children.
Among our rising stars is 20-year-old Chris Niemann, a graduate of Sobrato High School, who composed his “Chasing Dreams” symphonic piece for us. Its world premiere at our upcoming concert will no doubt astound the audience with the power of its musical quality. Another rising star is cellist Elena Ariza, the winner of this year’s Navaroli Young musicians Competition. Ariza will perform Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor.
Sadly, we’ll be saying goodbye to South Valley Symphony oboist Hiroyuki Otani who will give his farewell performance (before returning to Japan) of Mozart’s Concert in C major for Oboe and Orchestra.
Please join us for a delightful evening of music fun. Children under 18 can enjoy the concert for free, with an accompanying parent or guardian. College students with an I.D. also can get into the concert at no charge.
The focus of South Valley Symphony’s March 7 concert at Gavilan Community College’s theater is to showcase young musicians—our rising stars—by giving them the opportunity to perform with a full orchestra before a live audience.
