Hollister’s mayoral race is a chance for the residents to show that they want a better future. We must improve our long-term economic outlook and in-county employment while, at the same time, maintaining the things that make Hollister special – safety, recreation and, most of all, that personal small town and friendly semi-rural atmosphere.
My wife and I have lived in Hollister more than 16 years and I have worked here about 20 years. We retired here because we love the people, the city, and the area. I want us to do better – because you want the best for things you love. I wrote a column and served on the Free Lance Editorial Board as a public service for four and a half years to serve this community.
Increased economic activity will help pay for critical public safety costs and reduce poverty. It can support all the valuable extras that make a difference in our children’s future and local property values – library services, the animal shelter, sports leagues, road repair, and public events.
To accomplish these goals the Hollister City Council and staff must be dynamic and demonstrate they can define the issues, evaluate the options, select the best answer, implement the plan, and honestly measure the results. Superior leadership promotes those things – the competition is too tough to remain passive and let events shape our future; we must constantly work to define our own destiny.
