Congrats to winner of Patriot Pen Essay
I would like to thank you for running this year’s VFW
announcement for the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. We received more
than 40 entries from four different schools, as well as some from
home schoolers. Thank you.
I’m pleased to announce the winner of the 2010 VFW Patriot’s Pen
Essay Contest was an eigth-grader from Sacred Heart School. His
name is Kyle Markfield. His essay on

DOES PATRIOTISM STILL MATTER?

was judged first out of more than 40 entries. Kyle Markfield’s
essay was forwarded along with Carla Vazquez, from Spring Grove
school, the runner up, to the 12th District for the next level of
competition.
Kyle Markfield will receive a check for $200 for being the
winner of the VFW’s Post 9242 contest. Carla Vazquez and the other
runners up in the competition will receive $25 each. They were from
Sacred Heart: Adam Gonzales, Riley Drexler; from Cienega:
Christopher Perez; and from Spring Grove: Rebekah Mojica, Trevor
Eclarin and Taylor Perry. Certificates of Merit will be awarded to
the writers of all the essays.
