Resident defends college president’s statement about Gavilan

Dear Editor,

In her recent “guest view,” Annette Giacomazzi writes that she “shook (her) head in dismay” at Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella’s recent published letter expressing great enthusiasm for the future location of the college, in San Benito County. Well, now I am shaking my head in – in disgust – that she spent so much of her word allotment ripping Mr. Kinsella’s use of the term “San Benito Junior College,” and calling it “condescending.” Does she truly not know that “San Benito Junior College” was the original name of the institution? Or that any two-year college is generally referred to as a “junior college”?

What’s more, Mr. Kinsella expressed hope in the day that the college would, in time, become, “a college” – a four-year experience – without the “junior.” There are many two-year colleges that still officially call themselves “junior colleges,” such as Modesto JC and Santa Rosa JC. C’mon! Let’s get to the business of finding this institution a good place to flourish, preferably downtown Hollister!

Local citizen expresses gratitude for stay at Mabie Northside

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mabie Northside Nursing Home in Hollister for the excellent care given to my mom while a resident there.

The CNA’s Nurses, activity personnel, housekeeping, kitchen staff, and volunteers were wonderful and helped make my mom’s last days on earth the best.

Hollister is very fortunate to have a home like Northside that employs such a caring staff that are superb in their field.

A special thank you to Correne Porteur, MDS Coordinator, and Nancy Divis, social worker for making sure mom had every convenience to make her the most comfortable in a “home” environment.

Mom went home to be with the Lord, Friday February 29, 2008. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

For anyone who would hesitate to have their family member a resident of Mabie Nursing Home, know that you would not be disappointed in the care they would receive.

I am so full of appreciation knowing my mom spent her last few months cared for by a great group of such caring individuals.

Joann Kinslow, Hollister
