Reader surprised at ill-informed letter writer’s perception of San Juan Bautista parade
Dear Editor,
I was really surprised to read the article outlining crime and concerns about our City of San Juan Bautista, particularly when the writer claims he’d rather take his chances in Oakland (inferring that crime is worse in San Juan).
San Juan has always had sudden increases in crime, just like every other community. We have been fortunate that most of those increases were short runs, as law enforcement finally caught up with the bad actors. Having 24-hour cops in a town will never render a community crime free.
The person writing the letter really seems to have been misinformed on several of the issues expressed, and quite frankly, most of us in town really don’t understand what the purpose of the letter really was. Even if some portions of the isolated observations are accurate, the overall comments just appear to be a mean-spirited attack on our town.
I felt the parade that day, sponsored by the San Juan Bautista Chamber of Commerce, was one of the best Easter Parades the town has put on. I really cannot understand why an educated adult would think that the actions of a couple of juveniles should cause the entire city to be suddenly boycotted.

Big fan of Lima’s letters, as he’s voice of ‘kinder, simpler time’
Dear Editor,
I have to tell you that I really enjoy Amadeu Lima’s letters to the editor. I believe there have been, what, two or three so far recently? And what was up with the part 2 of a letter we never saw the part 1 of? His letters always bring a smile to my face. His is the voice of a kinder, simpler time. Maybe you could invite him to write a regular column, or might that ruin his spontaneity? Anyway, keep the spirit Mr. Lima!

Locals need tax relief
Dear Editor,
With motorists paying 100 percent of their own costs, and 99 percent of transit riders’ costs, too, please help homeowners by reporting opportunities to reduce their property taxes. Please help us pass Prop. 98, and to defeat Prop. 99. Save our homes.
