Grand jury needs sound minds
Our community needs a few good people to sit behind closed
doors! The members of the San Benito County Grand Jury are not
courtroom visitors. Instead, the task of the 18 members is to
interview, investigate, review and report the issues within the
community to the public and oversee all deeds done by those
spending the taxpayer’s hard-earned money.
The areas of interest are law and justice, city and county
issues, special districts, hospitals and education, and the topics
range from gang activity and the effects on the community, water
related interests, health care systems, to safety and
communication, emergency services and transportation, and the
Animal Shelter, just to name a few.
Although the position has a small allowance for travel, the
rewarding experience is most valuable to the service of the
community at large. The term is 1-2 years and appointed by the
presiding Judge of the Superior Court.
The goal of the membership is to represent the broad base of our
community and no experience is necessary. Members must be at least
18 years of age, U.S. citizens residing within the boundaries of
San Benito County for at least one year, and be able communicate in
English. Applications may be picked up at the Office of the Jury
Commissioner at San Benito Superior Court, 440 Fifth Street, Room
205. An application can also be downloaded from www. San Benito
County Grand Jury. org.
Members of this year’s Grand Jury will also be on hand in a
booth at the

Job Fair Expo

at the Vet’s Hall on Friday, May 18 between the hours of 4-8
p.m.

No new taxes

A ballot will be mailed to most owners of property in San Benito County this week. It will be to raise your property taxes to fund a “mosquito abatement” program. This new program will replace one previously funded by the state that covered the entire county.

The official reason a portion of the county is excluded is IT IS DRY. At Hernandez Reservoir and Bitterwater?

The most probable reason for excluding a portion of the county is a tax that included the entire county would require a super-majority of two-thirds to pass according to the requirements of Proposition 13. Exclude a region of the county and a simple majority is required to pass the property tax increase.

Our supervisors are willing to sacrifice a portion of our county in order to create a new revenue stream.

Will taxes for ticks and fleas be far behind?

The San Benito County Republican Party is opposed to any scheme that weakens Proposition 13. The San Benito County Republican Party is opposed to any property tax increase.

Vote NO for this property tax increase.

Marvin L. Jones, Chairman

San Benito County Republican Party
