Get involved to shape community
Over the past year or so, three proposals have been made regarding developments just north of Hollister Municipal Airport.
Are there three pieces of land on one property which one landowner is trying to sell?
If there are three parcels, I can envision the area becoming one big parking lot in the future, with buildings, traffic, air pollution, congestion on our roads and loss of farmland.
The three proposed developments were the casino, and more recently, Del Webb active adult communities, and now Gavilan College.
We have city and county general plans being developed. Are any of these properties which are being eyed for development being projected into these general plans or Vision San Benito?
With “East of Fairview” and “West of Fairview” along with DMB developments on the horizon, the properties close to the airport need to be all considered when looking at the big picture!
This is our county and we must all be active in its future. Attend the meetings, voice your opinions there or in the newspapers. We can learn from the mistakes made by neighboring communities and make our own a better place. Our future is in our hands!

The ‘mob’ that is Israel
Although I agree with Ron Silva (Dec. 25) that dropping “the bomb” on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was “the right thing to do,” I don’t think this would be a productive tactic in Iraq. We are not at war with a country, but with insurgents.
The only way to remove insurgents is to get people to rat them out. And to do that we need allies throughout the Middle East. The first step to achieve this would be to sever all relations with the biggest nuisance and welfare case in the world, the mob who calls itself Israel, who just bombed Lebanon and are now threatening Syria. They occupy Palestine, leaving the true citizens of the area in squalid, festering camps, with nothing left to lose, and then pretend to wonder why they suffer suicide bombers.
The presence of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is refreshing in this world. Perhaps Mr. Silva has the right idea but the wrong city.

Adult videos not her cup of tea
I have lived in Hollister for the last 20 years. I have shopped at Ranch Milk (Dairy) at least three or four times a month during that time. My father goes there at least five times a week. We were shocked to discover that sometime this month the owners had put in a wall in the back and now offer adult videos.
It made me wonder how the owners were able to do that without the public knowledge or getting upset. I remember years ago that someone wanted to open an adult store in Hollister and people were so upset that it was going to have to be put out at the airport. What happened this time? Is it not okay for a whole adult store, but it’s okay to have a wall and curtain next to the soda and candy? Who will watch to make sure children are not going behind the curtain? Is someone checking ID? I’m saddened to think that it is okay to have adult videos at a gas station.
My family and I are no longer going to Ranch Milk and I hope other people of Hollister will also stop going there. Please join me in making sure Hollister is a town with values.
