Keep highlighting the cost of Iraq war in paper
I miss the weekly report of the cost of the Iraq war to San
Benito County taxpayers. Last I noticed San Benito County alone
spent $1,650,681.67 or $1.651 million on the war in Iraq. That was
back on 9/25/09 and does not even include the cost of war in
Afghanistan, which is more costly because of the difficult terrain
for men and equipment.
Why do I miss such a lamentable fact and figure? I guess I wish
others to suffer as much as I do.
If only we went back to what really worked. The Marshall Plan
really worked. Europe loved us. Japan loved us. The Peace Corp
really works. Our youth and the poor they serve really love us.
Together these two constructive ideas would be far less costly than
the trillions spent on killing and destruction we have caused. The
Marshall Plan and the Peace Corp made friends. Now we make
enemies.
The cost this county pays for the war in Iraq is important. At
every City Council and Board of Supervisors meeting I have
attended, taxes and budgets get everyone’s attention. Our
schoolchildren could tell us that the best way to make friends is
to be a friend.

Hazel Hawkins offers support in time of need
We recently had a family member at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. This community is lucky to have such competent and compassionate professionals. Janet was transported by ambulance and they took such special care of her. She stayed at Hazel for several days while we made the difficult decision to let her go. She was then treated with “comfort care.” The doctor Mohammad Al Hasan was wonderfully caring.
We were touched by many nurses while we spent a 24-hour vigil at Janet’s bedside. Jeanie in ICU, Chris, Gale, Cindy, Nate, Rod, Margaret, Deborah, Katie, Annabel, Venus, John, Carolyn, Carol, Mary, Sharon, and Nancy on Med Surge were among the group of quality professionals that cared for our sweet Janet. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure not only was Janet comfortable, but in making sure all her family was as well. Our family will not forget the compassion and thoughtfulness we were shown during this difficult time.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The Family of Janet Evelyn Parr
