Existing Residents Shouldn’t Have to Pay for Rate Hike
Existing Residents Shouldn’t Have to Pay for Rate Hike

Editor,

I don’t live within the city limits, so the sewer rate hikes DO NOT affect me. Thus, I feel I can be a bit impartial on the subject.

But why should existing residents have to pay for the upgrades that FUTURE residents will take advantage of? The answer is simple to me, charge an appropriate impact fee for each new home such that existing residents don’t need a rate hike AT ALL.

In other words, if a neighbor wants to add an extra bathroom to his house, why should everyone else’s sewer rates go up? His should, and only his. Leave everyone else alone, they already pay their share.

Columnist is a Real Star

Editor,

I live in the Denver, Colo., area and ran across the lifestyles story “The Musings of a Young Astronomer” by David Baumgartner, on my Gmail-Google Alert-Astronomy Browser. His wonderful story brought back memories of my own fascination with astronomy in my youth, which has continued to this day. I had the same questions as a child. I have to say that I also liked Scorpius (also my birth sign), and to this day can’t wait for it to show itself in the summer skies. I have saved your Web site and look forward to future articles by this gifted writer.
