Farm Bureau backs mosquito control

The San Benito County Farm Bureau is in full support of the San Benito County Mosquito Abatement Program.

The directors of the Farm Bureau are aware of the potential health concerns stemming from mosquitoes, for both humans and animals. Since San Benito County is one of several counties in the state with no mosquito abatement program, we feel it is important for our county to participate in this mosquito abatement program. The mosquito abatement program will be more successful if all counties in our state work together.

Thank you for helping our county be proactive in this important health issue.

Universal health care?

Californians owe a debt of gratitude to Senator Kuehl  for SB840, the universal health care bill. The good news is that California only has a few more years to wait for the election of a Democratic governor who will sign the bill into law. California will lead the nation with health care for every citizen.

A vision: get informed

The initial meetings for formation of Vision San Benito were well publicized several years ago. Since then, I was unable to find where and where they were meeting until last Thursday at Veterans Memorial Building. The goal of that meeting was to present their vision for San Benito County.

The presentation was very professional, well rehearsed with plenty of visual aids. Opening remarks were revealing. The speaker said that after Measure G failed, a group of citizens came together to form an organization that will try to implement their agenda. The result is Vision San Benito. The remaining presentations emphasized areas of interest.

One recommendation that resulted from our group was to advise the citizens of San Benito County to become aware of the actions of our supervisors, our city councils, the council of governments, and the various boards such as water, school, and hospital.

Citizens need to know what is happening and not wonder why something happened the way it did.
