There Are Opportunities to Shop in Downtown Hollister
Editor,
Regarding Lori Woodle’s letter about downtown Hollister (“Have You Even Tried Hollister?” Nov. 27):
Kudos to Lori Woodle.
We have resided in Hollister for 19 years and always enjoyed the many businesses that have been here.
Some have gone and new ones taken their place but there has always been plenty of opportunity to shop locally and support our town.
It is a good time to stroll San Benito Street and enjoy a shopping day!

Moving Highway Traffic off San Benito Will Help Downtown
Editor,
Regarding the editorial “Let’s Stop the Retail ‘Leakage'”:
Getting the Highway 25 bypass built will have a tremendously POSITIVE impact on the fate of downtown businesses.
I spend very little time there now, other than driving, since the road is so crowded and speeds are high.
There is simply no chance to let the eyes wander to so much as see what businesses are there.
Getting out and walking is not much better, as one must be constantly vigilant about the speeding cars going up and down the street.
I’m not going to take my small children there with that going on.
Once the bypass is built, I plan to spend a great deal more time and money downtown.
Look at Main Street in Pleasanton for an example of what downtown Hollister can be.
Cut out the through traffic, lower the speed limit, remove the signal lights, make it easier to park, and there’s a formula for success that the big boxes in Gilroy can never even hope to compete with.
