Anti-Spanking Law Would Allow Kids to Rule the House
Anti-Spanking Law Would Allow Kids to Rule the House

Editor,

I would like people to be aware that if the proposed “anti-spanking law” goes into effect, this will remove the last punishment for parents.

Kids nowadays have CPS on speed dial by age 5. These kids know that they rule the house.

In the world today, it is so sad that the parents are truly afraid of their children.

A parent can punish their own children and be sent to jail.

In a grocery store, how many parents would rather give their kids the toy or the candy just to shut them up, instead of dragging the kid to the car and letting them know who is in charge?

No, I’m not saying that parents should take their kids to the car and beat them. No, I am not saying that.

I know that more than once when I was growing up my mother just picked me up and we walked out of the store. Left the groceries in the cart and all.

And guess what? I didn’t get my candy or my toy or whatever I could not live without. And yet I survived.

I think that we should seriously consider letting the government into our homes to “watch” over us.

Does anybody remember “Big Brother”?

What Can Parents Do When School Violates the Law?

Editor,

As a parent who attends more San Benito High School board meetings than your newspaper does, I was not surprised that only student behavior is reported.

Last school year, I complained to the SBHS board that teachers violated education law. The law says, “Any school official who violates, is guilty of a misdemeanor and in addition, be removed from his official position.”

They were not held accountable.

I gave your reporter all the paperwork. No article was published.

At these same board meetings time and time again it is reported that the staff has broken an education law. No consequences.

This year, parents were made to sign their students’ emergency cards, saying that parents received your parent rights. They didn’t. Most parents signed, but SBHS told parents they had to so that the student would get their schedules.

Did you know the schools are required by state and federal law to give the parent rights to you at the beginning of school?

They violated the law and forcing parents to sign a statement knowing at the time it was false is not OK.

Parents need to know what is going on in school, if you think the school is not doing their job.
