Gift Made a Real Difference
Gift Made a Real Difference

Editor,

I am principal of Aromas School and I want to share a story that I feel exemplifies the spirit of the holiday season.

Last month, a gentleman came into the office wanting to give me something. I won’t describe him in detail, as I don’t think he would want the public recognition, but I will say that he looked like he had lived a hard life.

He introduced himself as Bobby and handed me an envelope that contained a gift card to Kmart. He explained that he wanted to donate to a needy child at our school, as he attended the school many years ago and was a very needy child himself. I thanked him, shook his hand, and he left.

The gift card did not indicate the amount, and I assumed it was for $10 or $20. A volunteer from our local Aromas community giving project called Kmart and was told the amount on the card was $310!

I want Bobby to know that his donation made a real difference for the family that received it. I want to thank him again, and tell him that the first thing our student recipient thought of doing with the check was choosing a friend who is also financially needy and taking him shopping so that he could have something special too.

Bobby’s gift will not be forgotten by any of us at Aromas School.
