U.S. Prescription Drugs Far More Expensive Than Elsewhere

Talk about a rip off; how about this: My dermatologist prescribed Efudix for sun-damaged skin – a cream used to remove that sun-damaged skin. I took the prescription to Nob Hill Pharmacy to have it filled. When the price for a small tube cost $218.64 I decided not to buy it. I checked the Internet and found that Canada Drugs would only charge $68 for the same prescription. When talking with my daughter in Peru, she stated I could buy a tub of Efudix for $24. I chose the Efudix made by a U.S. drug company and sold in Peru and received it promptly.
Efudix is a chemical that has been prescribed by dermatologists for years. Why do the pharmaceutical companies in the United States jack up the prices so that older folks on fixed incomes cannot afford those drugs?
