Firearms Permits Are Low Because They Are So Hard to Obtain Here

Editor,

Concealed carry firearms permits would be greater in numbers in San Benito County if they were obtainable by the average citizen. Since California is not a right-to-carry state, an applicant must prove the need for personal protection or have friends in high places to sign the permit off. The guidelines of the law, as well as the approval process, are subjective in nature. Simply asking for what the Second Amendment of the Constitution is supposed to guarantee does not qualify as a compelling need to the local powers that be.

The article misrepresented the issue completely, and should have been titled “Concealed Weapon Permits not Obtainable in SB County for Most Citizens.” This title would truly reflect why the number of permit holders is so low.

He’ll Carry a Concealed Weapon the Rest of His Days

Editor,

I have carried a concealed weapon for more than 56 years, came close to using it one time and I am certain it saved my hide that time. You can be certain I plan on carry one the rest of my days.
