Have You Even Tried Hollister?
Have You Even Tried Hollister?
Editor,
I always enjoy the Free Lance News online polls. The current poll asks viewers to comment on how much of their holiday shopping will be local. I am amazed that 66 percent responded “none.” Only 3 percent indicated “all.” This is why I am so baffled that Measure R failed. Guess what, 66 percent of responders, you are going to spend well over 8 percent in SALES TAX on ALL of your holiday shopping.
Have you even considered what Hollister merchants have to offer? I rarely shop out of the area and I find so many gifts and other items locally that are big hits to my friends and family; I frequently hear “where did you find this?”
Have you 66 percent even driven down the streets of Hollister? Have you ever looked in the window of She’s, Maddux Jewelers, Penney Wise, Kelly’s Gift Place, Frenches, Boutique de Lingere? Do you know we have a Radio Shack? That Fortino’s and Enterprise Electric have great stuff? Did you know even Rite-Aid and Sav On stock up on interesting gift items? Our Target and K-Mart have loads of all the same stuff Walmart has with more parking. Are you aware that Hollister is home to two Candy Manufacturers? DeBrito’s Chocolate and Marich Confectionary both have retail stores and Web sites.
Great shopping lunches can be had at Running Rooster, Hard Times Cafe, Bistro 427, The Vault, The Elegant Touch with cookies to go, just to name a few.
Dear 66 percent, are you even aware that north of the intersection of Hwy 156 and The Alameda is another great shopping and dining experience? Apparently not.
It makes me wonder why so many people have flocked to Hollister for housing but have no intention of giving back to the community. My community.
So 66 percent, please remember to add new Christmas tree lights to your shopping list because it would be terrible if you had a house fire and the Fire Department was closed for business.

Free Lance Reporting Racist
Editor,
I thought it was interesting that you identified Mr. Garcia as a Mexican National (Car Crash Injures Two, Nov. 22). If he was a white guy, would you identify him as an Anglo or European National?
Do you realize how racist this type of reporting is? I want you to do the report over, and please identify what ethnicity, and nationality these other people were. I want to know where they are from, and what color their skin is, since you played the race card.
