SJB Special Council Meeting Should Have Been Postponed
SJB Special Council Meeting Should Have Been Postponed

Editor,

On Friday, Nov. 3, Vice Mayor Priscilla Hill notified the councilmembers that she was calling a Special City Council Meeting on Monday, Nov. 6 at 6pm. As noted in both of our local newspapers, San Juan’s beloved Mayor, Dan Reed, died of lung complications last week. Dan’s funeral was scheduled for Monday night at 7pm

I called the city manager, Janice McClintock, requesting the movement of the special meeting until after the funeral for Dan Reed. The city manager stated that the city council has 30 days to make an appointment or call for a special election. The city manager passed my request on to Vice Mayor Hill. She replied “the date and time would not be changed.”

I find Hill’s actions embarrassing and unprofessional. Other individuals in our community found Vice-Mayor Hill’s decision insensitive. You would think having a city council special meeting could wait a few days – don’t you!

Good News From the Chamberlain’s Center

Editor,

It’s about time someone took notice of the children at Chamberlain’s Children Center. I read the articles of a waiting child and I just want to take each one and bring them home to hug and take care of them But I’m just an old woman on a fixed income, and no way to help. I cry every time I hear something on my scanner about something happening to these children. They deserve much more than they are getting.
