Hollister is Headed for the Same Old Mistakes
Hollister is Headed for the Same Old Mistakes

Editor,

Here’s a troubling prediction: Hollister will REPEAT the SAME mistakes it made in the late ’90s when it grew with reckless abandon, and here’s why…

The proposed $124 sewer rates will only go into effect if there isn’t enough new development to offset the increase. So in order to prevent the HUMONGOUS rate increases, the poor citizens of Hollister will feel forced to accept WHATEVER new developments come along. It’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Either pay FOUR TIMES the rate of neighboring cities, or face reckless and wild growth. It’s only a losing situation.

All this for a new sewer system that will be obsolete virtually the minute after it goes online.

Or maybe nobody will want to move into the new homes because of the high sewer rates. What if they built a development and nobody came?

The Right Choice for District 4

Editor,

We have a supervisor representing District 4 who has shown how much he cares about our community by his dedication to a very tough job. There is no way that we can please all the people all the time, and part of being a good supervisor is making decisions that are best for all concerned and quietly taking the heat from those who disagree.

Reb Monaco is a dedicated supervisor. He is as conscientious as a supervisor as he was as a teacher for the 32 years he taught special education in our local school district. It takes a special dedicated person to be a good teacher … and even moreso for those who teach children with special needs.

Reb has shown that he is willing to work for our community and do all he can to increase our quality of life. He has shown he is willing to work with fellow supervisors to do the job by attending all the meetings needed both here and out of the area. He has secured millions of dollars being used in our community for youth activities and domestic violence shelters, he has promoted smart growth and has held the line on reasonable building in the county during his first four years.

Let’s keep him working for us and all of San Benito County by voting for Reb Monaco on Nov. 7.
