Editor,
I attended our Planning Commissioners’ meeting on April 20, with no surprise to me when they came to the workshop about the hillside ordinance. Six people spoke showing their opposition to the ordinance just like many times before. At least 80 percent spoke against it.
In my opinion, this ordinance was denied before for lack of support and that should have been case closed. To please some of the losers, we are here spending time and money for no reason. As many people agreed, and I mentioned before, what the county needs that is far overdue is to revise the General Plan. For many years, they have been just adding without taking any out. The point is, that with so many rules and regulations, people are really fed up with it. To get a permit takes a package as thick as the Bible. We have a few actors to blame. I can see how much they enjoy keeping everybody controlled by the bridle. Vicious for power is the cause. We all know times change. Things have to be adjusted, but at least throw out the old ones so it will make things easier for everybody. There would be less cost and less work. The package in many cases can be just half the size.
In our age, we don’t think to build houses on the hills to support ourselves. We prepare our nests for our future to live without depending on the public to support us. The years ahead of us can be counted. We are not fools. We know what comes. But we have worked hard to make things happen. We still work hard to maintain. We pay taxes and insurance.
One thing that bothers me is those who never succeed, that I call failures. They never offer to give us a hand when we so desperately need it. However, they think they have the right to make the rules on what we work so hard for. I believe there should be some respect for the ones who have done everything from way back to make things happen. At least let us go away first. We are not going to let you treat us as if we do not exist. I am talking for myself, but I am sure there are many out there who feel the same way I do.
I’ve been voting for 40 years without fail. I feel very strong that the majority should rule. It’s proven in this case that we have the majority. With a high percentage against this ordinance, I feel if it is approved, it would be against the majority. There would be no reason from now on to vote again.
Silence has its advantage, nobody can repeat what you say. It might be a good idea for me to try. It would be hard for a person like me who still enjoys anything I get involved in.
