Three newspaper editors and four county officials and candidates are getting their lips moistened and ready in anticipation of puckering up to a pig at this year’s county fair.

The “Make’Em Kiss the Pig” campaign is a fundraiser for the county 4-H clubs and University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE). For a $1 donation, people can cast their vote for who they want to smooch the porker. The candidates include: District 2 Supervisor Candidate Anthony Botelho, Hollister Free Lance Editor Conan Knoll, County Administrative Officer Dan Vrtis, Supervisor Reb Monaco, the publisher of the Free Press Linda King, Supervisor Pat Loe and editor of the Pinnacle Tracie Cone.

Ballots can be cast at 20 different county locations, and the fund-raising goal is $17,500. The main purpose of the fundraiser is to offset expenses the county supplies to UCCE for operations costs.

San Juan 4-H Leader Linda Figone said this is the first time the 4-H has done the fundraiser and that it will show the county how much the community supports their program has.

“I’m not sure if we’ll raise the full $17,500, but I know we’ll raise a lot, and that will also show just how much support we have,” she said. “And it will be a lot of fun.”

Cast your vote throughout San Benito County. In Hollister: Cafe California; Cedar House Restaurant; Design Line & Granger Printing; Dimensions of Style; Elks Lodge; Judy’s Gifts and Awards; McAbee Feed; Rancher’s Feed; Rovella’s Athletic Club; Redbeard Communications, Inc.; San Benito County Administrative Office ; Slender Lady; UCCE/4-H Office. Throughout the county: at the Paicines Store; Heavenly Quilting and Pizza Factory in San Juan Bautista; Bitterwater-Tully School in South County; Flap Jack Restaurant, San Benito County Fairgrounds, Tres Piños Ranch Supply in Tres Piños.

The kissing will occur Oct.2 during the Junior Livestock Auction; the fair will be held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3. For more information, call 831-637-5346.
