The unemployment rate in San Benito County continued increasing in February and reached 15.8 percent.

It was a 1 percent hike over January’s figure and nearly 4 percent higher than in December, according to data from the California Economic Development Department.

In San Benito County, of the 26,600 citizens in the workforce, 4,200 were unemployed, according to the report.

Statewide, the unemployment figure rose from 10.1 percent to 10.5 percent as 47,000 Californians lost their jobs, according to the EDD.

The lowest unemployment rate statewide was in Marin County, with 6.8 percent, while the highest was Colusa County with 26.6 percent.
