San Benito Needs Winning Effort Against Palma to Make

Hollister – After Friday’s football games, San Benito won’t be sending Live Oak any “farewell-its-been-nice-knowing-you” cards when the Acorns leave the Tri-County Athletic League at the end of the season.

San Benito was defeated 28-25 by Live Oak. It was the first time since the teams were in the Monterey Bay League together in 1998 that Live Oak won the matchup.

“It’s all about Palma now,” said San Benito coach Chris Cameron. “I haven’t even looked at the film yet. I know what happened, and we’ve addressed it. We had a long talk with the kids today. We had probably one of our best practices that we have had all year.”

Even coming in to the game Cameron said he could tell something just didn’t feel right.

“I just didn’t seem like we were really ready,” Cameron said. “It felt that way during the week and on our bus ride over. I had been feeling that way since we stepped out on the field. We couldn’t run the ball and couldn’t get time off the clock.”

Both San Benito’s top rushers Tim Lango and Jeff Weltz were held to under 30 yards rushing. As a result of the inefficiency on the ground, San Benito went to the air late in the game.
