Why not just offer the landowners along the Highway 25 bypass
route a fair price from the beginning? I am eagerly awaiting the
bypass project and am sad to see it delayed for any reason. But I
am going to side with the landowners here.

They deserve a fair appraisal, and it doesn’t seem like they received one. Now it looks like they’ll get one, hopefully. But, guess what? Land values have shot up since all of this began. So now it will cost even more to acquire the necessary land than it would have if fair appraisals had been done upfront. Whoever’s bright idea it was to lowball them should be ashamed of themselves. Did you really think you were going to get away with it?
