Hollister resident Manuel Jorge Escobar died Saturday, Feb. 14,
2004 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 79.
He was born in Faial, Azore Islands and came to San Benito
County in 1971.

Hollister resident Manuel Jorge Escobar died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 79.
He was born in Faial, Azore Islands and came to San Benito County in 1971.
Mr. Escobar was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
As a member of SDES, he worked to make the Portuguese Festivals a success each year in Hollister and the surrounding communities.
Mr. Escobar worked for Bob Perreira Dairy on Shore Road for 18 years. Prior to that, he worked at Maria Perry’s dairy in the Almaden area of San Jose. His last occupation was with Teledyne McCormick Selph as a custodian from which he retired after six years.
He is survived by his daughter Maria Manuela Escobar of Stoughton, Mass., son-in-law Leonel Bulcao of Stoughton; granddaughter Elizabeth Bulcao Cruz and her husband Israel of Stoughton; great-granddaughter Geraldina Cruz of Stoughton; brother Jose and Gabriela Escobar of Hayward, Calif.; and cousins Edunio and Joan Garcia of Hollister and Joseph Garcia of Hollister.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maria Angeline Medieros Escobar, who died in 1981 in the Azores; son Manuel Escobar Jr., who died in 1981 and daughter Geraldina Bulcao, who died in 1989.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Friends are invited to attend the rosary Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family and friends will leave the mortuary chapel Thursday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. to go to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
