The San Benito County Board of Supervisors appointed Maria Corona, the deputy director of Child Protective Services, as the interim director of the Health and Human Services Agency. She will take over when Kathy Flores retires on May 7 from the position.

The board of supervisors has been meeting in closed session to discuss a replacement since Flores announced her retirement a few months ago. They approved Corona’s appointment during the Tuesday morning meeting.

Jacki Credico, a human resource analyst, noted during the meeting that with the appointment to interim director, Corona has “retreat rights” if the board of supervisors decide to appoint someone else to the permanent position at a later date. That means Corona would be able to return her position as deputy director.
