Hollister City Council members received appointments to various Council committees by Mayor Tony Bruscia on Monday.

Bruscia kept many of the appointments the same while mixing it up in other areas.

“I tried to appease everyone’s desires,” Bruscia said to Council members, “unfortunately there were some where there was more than one (person) that wanted (the appointment).”

Council member Tony LoBue took over Brian Conroy’s position on the Council of Governments (COG), with Council member Pauline Valdivia as the other representative.

“I had a few different people who wanted to be on this, and I had committed to Tony that he could participate in that,” Bruscia said, “and Brian, I’ll have you be the alternate if you will.”

Bruscia kept Conroy’s appointment on the Local Agency Formation Commission the same, with Valdivia as the alternate.

The mayor kept five committees with the same representatives that had previously served on them, including keeping Council member Robbie Scattini on the California Council of Criminal Justice, Valdivia and himself as the alternate on the Groundwater Management Plan Committee, and LoBue on the Pajaro River Watershed Flood Prevention Authority Committee.

He kept Valdivia as the public works department liaison, along with Conroy as the community development liaison, and Scattini as the YMCA representative and motorcycle event liaison.

He made some changes with LoBue as the police liaison, himself as the fire liaison and Valdivia as the administration liaison.

He also had Scattini take over his previously appointment position on the finance committee.

“You seem to do a really good job of keeping on top of that,” he told Scattini. “I just figured that was appropriate.”

Bruscia asked the Council to approve a change concerning two committees that deal specifically with public information – the Council Public Information Committee and the Economic Development Subcommittee.

The Council Public Information Committee was formed to better communicate with the public about issues going on with the city, such as making better use of the cable channel, Bruscia said.

The economic development subcommittee was formed to try to promote business to work with the cable channel to do more.

“Those two kind of dove tail,” Bruscia said. “So I’d like to change that Council of Public Information Committee to the Economic Development Subcommittee that we talked about creating as an ad hoc (specified) committee.”

The Council unanimously approved the change of committees, so Bruscia appointed himself and LoBue to the committee.

The committees meet regularly each month to discuss items, then report back to the Council.
