It has been over 50 years since the junior Senator from Wisconsin raised the practice of character assassination to an art form. It even earned his name, McCarthyism.
District Attorney John Sarsfield must have studied the practice. He exercises it with such ease. He will plea-bargain murders and gun-toting gang-bangers to a slap on the wrist while spending hundreds of thousand of county dollars pursuing imagined enemies.
In addition to county Supervisors, he has performed the art of character assassination on numerous private citizens. The common thread is they have criticized John Sarsfield.
Now District Attorney John Sarsfield has referred to individuals that show public support for our troops as “a bunch of bigots.” (Free Lance April 26) Senator McCarthy never reached that low.
