McDonald’s was down 4-3 before scoring five runs to defeat Rancho Val Verde 9-6 for the Hollister Recreation Division 3 overall championship Monday night at Veteran’s Park.

For awhile, it appeared Jason Livingston’s two-run home run in the third inning would be enough.

But Tom Castillo, who was 3-for-3, started the sixth inning with a hit, and Bill Mifsud walked.

Terry Avilla, who also was 3-for-3, tied the game with single. McDonald’s scored four runs in the inning with no outs and five total to take a 9-4 lead.

Rancho Val Verde came back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. A run scored on a ball hit to the outfield by Geno Andrade that was misplayed, and another scored on a double by Manuel Juarez.

Both teams scored two runs in the first. McDonald’s went ahead 3-2 in the second before Livingston’s home run in the third.

Mifsud earned the win for McDonald’s.

Lenard Valencia made several nice plays in left center field to prevent extra bases. He was also big in the open Rancho field the week before to take away hits from the Phillies and help his team advance to the championship.

In other games, the Free Agents came together as a team to win the Division 5 championship with a 29-3 victory over Cedar Valley. Matt Silbert hit a home run for the Free Agents.

In women’s softball, Granite Rock defeated Seven Oaks 10-1 for the Division 2 title and Breen’s Diamond Girls defeated A & N Plumbing 6-5 for the Division 1 title.
