Cara Christine Miguel and David Andrew McVey were married Oct. 26, 2002 at Chateau Julien Wine Estate in Carmel. Miguel is the daughter of Nancy Paine of Hollister. McVey is the son of Andrew and Alyson McVey of Paisley, Scotland.
Miguel is a graduate of San Benito High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University. David earned his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University in England and his master’s degree from Glasgow University in Scotland.
The couple honeymooned in Maui and Kauai and now reside in San Jose.
Miguel wore a white sheath gown with hand beaded and crocheted lace appliques and a chapel length veil and carried a bouquet of white lisianthus. The groom, best man, ushers and groom’s father wore the traditional Highland kilt in the colors of Braveheart tartan.
The bride was escorted by her mother to music performed by Spanish guitarist Terrence Ferrell. Pastor John Amelio officiated with 80 family and friends in attendance. Honored guests included the bride’s grandparents, Delmer and June Paine of Hollister, and the groom’s grandparents, David and Esther Gilchrist, who traveled from Scotland with many family members.
Immediately following the ceremony, a Scottish bagpiper led the bride, groom and wedding party into the wine and hors d’oeuvre reception.
The maid of honor was Annessa Miguel, the bride’s sister, of San Jose. The bridesmaids were Francesca Whitmire of Hollister; Jennifer Dicker of Pleasanton; and Lisa Fuentes of Sacramento. The best man was Andrew McVey, the groom’s brother, of Paisley, Scotland. The ushers were Mark Illingworth of Paisley, Scotland, and Craig Gaze of Miles, Australia. The bride’s goddaughter, Madison Whitmire of Hollister, was the flower girl.
