Program offers financial advice for teens
The Money Smart Youth Camp, hosted by Dreams and Visions
Community Development, will be held July 26 to Aug. 13, from 10
a.m. to noon, for residents 12 to 19 years old.
The curriculum is based on the FDIC’s Money Smart program and
teaches the basic of handling money and finances. The classes are
free and will be held at Mars Hill Coffehouse, 610 San Benito St.,
in Hollister.

The Money Smart Youth Camp, hosted by Dreams and Visions Community Development, will be held July 26 to Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, for residents 12 to 19 years old.

The curriculum is based on the FDIC’s Money Smart program and teaches the basic of handling money and finances. The classes are free and will be held at Mars Hill Coffehouse, 610 San Benito St., in Hollister.

The classes are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and include the following topics:

Bank On It – An introduction to bank services

Check It Out – How to choose and keep a checking account

Setting Financial Goals – Money management

Pay Yourself First – Why you should save, save, save

Borrowing basics – An introduction to credit

Charge It Right – How to make a credit card work for you

Paying For College and Cars – Installment loans (car and student loans)

A Roof Over Your Head – Informed decisions on apartments and mortgages.

Participants can win $100 starter savings account, X-Box and Wii games, Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk tickets and more. Volunteers are needed to help with the classes.
